Light Canada Purple β€” October 29, 2026 πŸ’œ

On Thursday, October 29, 2026, landmarks, homes, businesses and communities across Canada will glow PURPLE for Rett syndrome as part of the Light Canada Purple campaign.

Each October, Rett Syndrome Awareness Month gives us an opportunity to help more people learn about Rett syndrome, recognize the incredible individuals and families within our community, and start conversations that can lead to greater understanding, inclusion and support.

On October 29, we are asking communities across British Columbia, the Yukon and Canada to help us turn the country purple.

πŸ’œ Landmarks Across BC Are Lighting Up Purple

We are thrilled to already have a growing number of British Columbia landmarks confirmed to light purple for Rett syndrome, including:

  • Canada Place
  • BC Place
  • Vancouver Convention Centre
  • BC Parliament Buildings & Fountains
  • Port Coquitlam City Hall
  • Coquitlam Lafarge Lake & SkyTrain Guideways
  • Maple Ridge City Hall
  • Surrey Civic Plaza
  • Fitzsimmons Bridge in Whistler
  • Burnaby City Hall & Parkway
  • White Rock Pier

…and more locations are being added as confirmations arrive!

If there is a participating landmark close to you, we would love for you to go see it.

Bring your family, wear your pRETTy Awesome shirts, pins or other Rett syndrome awareness gear, take photos in front of the purple lights and share them with us.

Every photo helps show how far Rett syndrome awareness can reach.

🏠 You Can Light Canada Purple Too!

You don’t need a famous landmark to participate.

On October 29, RSSBC is inviting families, businesses, schools, offices and communities across BC and the Yukon to LIGHT PURPLE.

Light your:

πŸ’œ Home
πŸ’œ Porch
πŸ’œ Window
πŸ’œ Business
πŸ’œ Office
πŸ’œ School
πŸ’œ Community space

Use purple light bulbs, string lights, LED lights or whatever you have available.

Even one purple light can help start a conversation.

Imagine homes, landmarks, businesses and community spaces across Canada all glowing purple on the same evening β€” each one representing another opportunity for someone to ask:

β€œWhy is everything purple tonight?”

And that gives us the opportunity to tell them about Rett syndrome.

πŸ“Έ Show Us Your Purple!

There are so many ways to participate in Rett Syndrome Awareness Month.

You might:

  • Visit a landmark illuminated purple
  • Light your home or business
  • Wear your pRETTy Awesome pins or shirts
  • Organize a Rett syndrome awareness activity at your school
  • Share information about Rett syndrome with coworkers, friends or family
  • Post Rett syndrome facts or resources on social media
  • Talk to someone new about Rett syndrome

Whatever you choose to do, we want to see it!

Take photos of your Rett Syndrome Awareness Month activities and share them with RSSBC. Tag us so we can celebrate your efforts and help show just how far Rett syndrome awareness is reaching across our communities.

πŸ’œ Together, We Can Turn Canada Purple

Awareness doesn’t always require a huge event.

Sometimes it begins with a purple light in a window, a pin on a jacket, a conversation at school, a photograph shared online or a landmark glowing purple against the night sky.

Every conversation helps someone new learn about Rett syndrome.

Every purple light helps our community be seen.

And on October 29, 2026, we hope you’ll join us as we Light Canada Purple for Rett syndrome.

Light it. Wear it. Share it. Talk about it.

Together, let’s turn Canada purple. πŸ’œ
